Duncanville boxer Luis Yanez will appeal his removal from the U.S. Olympic team Thursday before USA Boxing's judicial committee in Colorado Springs, his lawyer Domingo Garcia said.

"We are preparing for the hearing," Garcia said. "We will bring witnesses who will support our case, and we're confident that everything will come out OK."

Yanez will travel with his sister Jessica, his father Bulmaro and Michael Montoya, a spokesman for the family.

They will tell the committee that a family emergency obligated Yanez to miss three weeks of training with the Olympic boxing team in Colorado Springs.

The boxer has said he was tending to his 23-year-old sister, a single mother who was in drug rehab, and her four children.

Garcia said he will argue that Yanez earned an automatic berth to Beijing in October at the AIBA World Championships.

If the judicial committee rules for Yanez, who continues to train at GTO gym in Oak Cliff, USA Boxing CEO Jim Millman said he would welcome the boxer back.
