POWER RANKINGS2008 preseason power rankings10:58 AM CDT on Thursday, August 21, 2008Tell us who should be number 1
1. EAST ST. LOUIS The Flyers made it all the way to the state semifinals last year. This year it is state championship or bust. They return Detchauz Wray, Kraig Appleton and Terry Hawthorne. All three will be playing in Division One in a couple of years. This team is loaded.
2. MEHLVILLE The Panthers returned to being a top team in the area last year. Although they took some big losses to graduation look for Tyrone Clark to keep the Panthers near the top in the Metro area this season.
3. FORT ZUMWALT WEST T.J. Moe is one of the most exciting players in the metro area and should put the Jaguars right back at the top in the G.A.C. Their biggest problem is their district with Hickman and Jefferson City standing in their way to make the playoffs.
4. KIRKWOOD Year after year the Pioneers are among the most powerful teams in the area. Nothing should change this year after a disappointing finish in the playoffs last season.
5. EUREKA The Wildcats missed out on the playoffs last season by losing just one game. The playoff system has changed and the bad taste hasn't gone out of their mouths. Look out for Eureka.
6. MICDS Jeremiah Oteh threw for almost 3,000 yards last season. As a senior you would expect better. The Rams have a great shot at making it back to the state championship this season.
7. SLUH Ronnie Wingo is the most sought after running back in the area by colleges. The Jr. Bills haven't been able to take his talent and turn it into 8, 9, or 10 wins yet. This season will be different.
8. HAZELWOOD EAST The Spartans have gone through a shakeup in their coaching staff. Corey Johnson became a principal and the reigns were handed over to Super Bowl hero Mike Jones. The Spartans are always near the top in the Suburban North.
9. GATEWAY TECH Sheldon Richardson is headed to Mizzou next year but first he has some work to do for the Jaguars. A PHL title and trip to the playoffs is what should be expected out of Gateway Tech.
10. TIMBERLAND The Wolves have moved up a class this year which usually means a tough season but having Montee Ball should make the transition easier. Ball is headed to Wisconsin and Timberland should be headed to the playoffs.
