Nine out of 10 times when the Highland Bulldogs (18-5) and Edwardsville Tigers (23-2) square off on a baseball diamond, it’s going to be an exciting, fundamentally-sound ball game.

Saturday’s finale of the third annual Tigers Baseball Classic at Tom Pile Field was the off day.

In a game filled with six errors, four by Highland and two by the Tigers, EHS was able to cling to an 11-5 victory.

“We played bad,” Bulldog head coach Joel Hawkins said of the defending Class 3A state champs. “That’s what you’re trying to say, ‘Coach you played really bad and it was a stinker of a game.’
