TOP STORIESQ&A: Parkway South boys volleyball leans on young players10:56 AM CDT on Monday, March 31, 2008Your name: Carrie Steele
Your School: Parkway South HS
School Mascot/Team name: Patriots
Which spring sport(s) do you coach? Boys Volleyball
How many years have you been coaching? At South, three years. Overall - 11 yrs
What was your record last year? 23-11-1
How is your team shaping up for this season? Currently, we are 2-0 after wins over Parkway Central and West. We still have a lot of work to do because I have seven out of eight new players. Four of them played on the freshman team last year and they are starting Varsity which is a big change so we still have a lot of game experience and awareness to work with!
Who do you expect to be the leaders on this team and why? Brian Collins - has started for us since he was a freshman and is now a junior and he has to be consistent because we will need him as a stabilizer. Robert Jackson and Tim Corbett are seniors and seniors always have a motivator to play well and be leaders!
Which athletes do you expect to be impact players this year, why? Brian Collins - was 5th last year in kill leaders as a sophomore. He continues to play club ball and come in ready to go and hit the ground running
What challenges are you expecting this year? The fact I have seven new guys! Two are middles, one a setter, one a RS and playing at a Varsity level is so much different. The speed, expectations, transition, decision-making - it is completely different.
What is the best part about coaching this team? The guy's personalities and willingness to work and change old habits. |
