(AP) -- Senior Whitney Edie scored 25 points as Exeter beat Marion County 56-31 to capture the Class 1 girls state championship. The Tigers (30-1) set the stage for winning the school's first state championship in girls basketball early, jumping out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter. Edie scored 11 of those points herself, eventually chipping in seven rebounds and hitting eight of her nine free throw attempts. Destini Stensrud scored 12 points for Exeter while Katie Chadd added 10. The Mustangs (27-5) never got any closer after the first quarter, turning the ball over 20 times and shooting just 23 percent from the field.
