GAME OF THE WEEKPALO VERDE vs. SANTA RITA10:23 AM MST on Friday, October 26, 2007Who knew that when Jeff Scurran took over the Santa Rita football program he would have them playing for the 4A Gila Region championship. Let’s be honest… I’m sure there were positives thoughts amongst the football community regarding the Eagles upcoming season, but they were winless at this time last year. Either way, Scurran knows how to win and he has spread his “mojo” all over the players in the Santa Rita program. They’ve been tested all season – winning blow-outs, close games, as well as bouncing back after losing a 2-point heartbreaker to the Marana Tigers. I’d say they’re ready for the big stage.
As for their opponent… the Palo Verde Titans are the 2-time defending Gila Region champions, and have a 14-1 Region record over the last 3 seasons (including a 4A Division II State Championship in 2005). Outside of last week’s 13-0 victory over Catalina, all the Titans wins have been by 20 points or more this season. That sounds like a team that’s confident in making plays all game long.
The numbers are on the table, now it’s time for the players to take the field, and find out who wants that 4A Gila Region championship. We’ll know Friday night. Will you be there to see it? |
