It’s that time of the season; win or go home. Ironwood Ridge proved to be the best team in the 5A Southern B-League, one year removed from the 4A Division. The Nighthawks won their regular season match-up against the Blue Devils 15-14, running the ball down Sunnyside’s throat for 229 yards (D’Juan Cherry had 185 and 2 TD’s). Sunnyside quarterback Jaime Valdez did not play in that game for undisclosed reasons, and it’s no secret he is a difference maker when under center. Even with a strong running game; its Ironwood Ridge’s defense that’s been the backbone of the team all season long. In 11 games this season, the Nighthawks “D” has held an opponent to 7 points or less 6 times with 3 shutouts. They’ll have the task of trying to stop Sunnyside’s Jovan Stevenson who had touchdown runs of 80 and 26 in their first meeting. Looks like a lot of intangibles will have a big impact on Friday’s outcome, but the bottom line is… WIN OR GO HOME!!! See you at the game.
